Google is making it easier for iPhone users to convert to Android phones. The business has relaunched its data transfer application for iOS customers, Android Switch, which allows them to shift their information and accounts. Meanwhile, Google has announced that a handy delayed data transfer function debuted with the Pixel 9 series will be available on other Android phones in 2025. The business also claims that data transfers from iOS to Android via a cable will now be significantly quicker.
Google Rebrands Data Transfer Tool as 'Android Switch'
As part of its attempts to make migrating from iOS to Android easier, Google has renamed its Data Restore Tool 'Android Switch'. The app's entry in the App Store and Google Play has already been changed with the new name, a refreshed icon, and a description that reads "Google's official transfer app".
The revised Android Switch software allows users to move conversations, calendars, contacts, Wi-Fi networks, Google accounts, and other data from their iPhone to their new Android smartphone. It also explains users how to turn off iMessage when switching from iOS, which is a necessary step before receiving SMS texts (or RCS messages in compatible locations) from others.
According to Google's FAQ website, users will be able to sync contacts, calendar events, and on-device photographs and videos using a cable or the cloud. However, if users wish to transfer messages, applications, on-device music, or notes, they must use a cable.
Google also claims that customers who utilize a cable to move data from their iPhone to a new Android phone using the Android Switch app would benefit from a 40% boost in transfer speeds, indicating a significant improvement in performance over the previous year. The corporation did not provide any information on how it improved transfer speeds when using cables.
When the Pixel 9 series was released, Google included the option to swiftly finish an initial setup procedure so that consumers could have faster access to their smartphone and then begin the data transfer process at a later time. While this functionality is now only accessible on the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google plans to make it available on more Android phones in 2025.
