Ryan Reynolds has revealed unexpected insights about his forthcoming movie 'Deadpool & Wolverine'.
The Red Notice actor, along with Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy, appeared on Entertainment Weekly's Awardist podcast and discussed their efforts to cast Nicolas Cage as a Ghost Rider chemo.
"They were in early drafts," explained Reynolds.
The actor, who also acted as a writer and executive producer, confirmed Ben Affleck's participation in Daredevil and Nicolas Cage's in Ghost Rider.
"We had other variations of that [sequence], but as it turned out, you're kind of seeing...We're also attempting to make the film in a responsible manner. "It's a big budget," he explained.
The film had the highest budget in Deadpool series history, but Reynolds focused on maintaining control, which he believes "facilitates asymmetrical thinking and creativity."
He went on to say, "When you have too much time or money, it usually kills that kind of creativity." So, yes, you are shrinking things.
The 48-year-old said, "But we did speak with Nic Cage. We attempted to contact him, but he was unavailable.... "I would have loved him."
Despite Cage's "no," the director claimed that they received a lot of permissions.
"Fortunately, we received a lot of yeses. Mostly because Ryan would call them directly. "He'd frequently conduct an ambush FaceTime and put them on the spot," Levy added.
These "yeses" included Jennifer Garner (Elektra), Wesley Snipes (Blade), and Henry Cavill (Cavill-rine Wolverine variation).
Deadpool & Wolverine has been a smash hit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its debut on July 25, 2024.
