CivicEye, an AI-powered surveillance system, was unveiled on Tuesday by Valiance Solutions. The artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics solution company claims that their system can monitor a wide range of public disruptions and criminal actions, including traffic violations, theft, and unauthorized vendor encroachment. The business claims it is collaborating with local governments in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh to test the AI system in major cities. It also says that the system complies fully with India's data privacy standards established by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
The CivicEye portal will only be accessible to government officials and police
CivicEye, according to the AI business, is intended to improve public safety and streamline law enforcement operations. It is built on Google Cloud and can handle enormous amounts of video data to provide real-time monitoring of roadways and other public locations.
The surveillance system, which is based on the company's native AI models, can detect traffic offenses (such as speeding and unlawful parking), monitor public disturbances, measure crowd density, identify road dangers such as stray animals and potholes, and notify authorities to take action. CivicEye also includes criminal detection capabilities to identify instances such as chain snatching and public brawls. It can also monitor situations like illegal street sellers.
The business claims it has teamed with local governments in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh to test the initiative in important cities. CivicEye will use both current CCTV systems and newly installed cameras to monitor public safety.
According to Valiance Solutions, the CivicEye front end may be accessible via a web portal as well as a mobile app and will be available only to governing bodies and the police. The AI system is housed in MeitY-managed data facilities. Notably, CivicEye is a patent-pending technology.
During a press briefing, Gadgets 360 asked the business if it will have access to identifying data such as car registration plates and persons' faces. A concern was also raised about whether the AI model would be trained on this data. According to the corporation, CivicEye does not process or analyze faces, and information such as car number plates will only be provided to police.
The corporation also stated that once the system is operational, it would be unable to access it save for maintenance and update rollouts. When queried about the data used to train the AI models, Valiance Solutions stated that the system was trained using publically available datasets and simulation data developed in-house.
Gadgets 360 also inquired about AI hallucinations and the rate of failure in either detecting an offense or falsely reporting one. While there have been occasional instances of hallucinations, the Indian AI business answered that during internal testing, the accuracy for important offenses such as stealing was assessed at 99 percent. For less serious offenses, the corporation claimed accuracy of 97 percent.
CivicEye is now being tested in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, and Banda, Uttar Pradesh. The monitoring system is also being deployed in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh. The business expects to complete full deployment in these places over the next several months, with plans to extend to more cities in the near future.
