YouTube stated on Tuesday that it will expand its auto dubbing tool to include knowledge and information-focused video. The video streaming platform initially unveiled this feature at VidCon last year, and it is based on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies created by Aloud, Google's in-house Area 120 incubator. As the name implies, auto dubbing may automatically transcribe and translate YouTube videos from English to other dialects, and vice versa, allowing producers to engage viewers who do not speak the same language by overcoming linguistic barriers.
Expansion of YouTube's Auto Dubbing feature
In a blog post, YouTube explained how its AI-powered auto dubbing tool is now more widely available. According to the Google-owned platform, this functionality will be available to hundreds of thousands of YouTube channels in the YouTube Partner Program that focus on education and information.
Creators who create videos in English can have them automatically dubbed into French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. Meanwhile, if the video is in one of the above languages, it will be dubbed into English. Videos dubbed with this function will display an auto-dubbed label. Viewers may listen to the original audio by using the track selection.
This feature does not require any additional procedures to utilize. Creators just post videos, and YouTube will automatically recognize the language and dub them in other supported languages. Dubbed videos may be watched under the YouTube Studio's Languages area. Creators will have control over the dub and may opt to unpublish or delete dubs that do not meet their standards, according to the portal.
The firm recognizes that there may be times when the translation is a little off or the dubbed voice does not match the original speaker. However, it underlines that users may always provide comments to help enhance the product. It is striving to improve the accuracy, expressiveness, and naturalness of dubs using a tool dubbed 'Expressive Speech', which was showcased at the Made on YouTube event in September.
