As his children grow into young adults, Ben Affleck makes it a point to teach them that life is not always easy.
The 52-year-old actor and filmmaker shared the seemingly severe standards he must follow as a father to allow his children to grow independent.
In an episode of Today with Jenna & Friends podcast, the Good Will Hunting star, who is said to have a net worth of $150 million, claimed that he turned down his 13-year-old son Samuel's request for a pair of $6000 sneakers.
"He wanted these sneakers, and I said, 'These sneakers cost $6,000, what are you talking about?'" What are you going to do? Mow lawns? "You have $6,000?" Affleck joked with the host on Tuesday.
"He said, 'We have the money.' I was thinking, 'I got the money! "You're broke," said the Gone Girl actor.
Affleck went on to say, "You adore your children. You want to give them everything and do everything for them," adding, "you do [them] a disservice" by not teaching them that they must work for what they want.
The Oscar winner went on, "Well, he has shoes, just not crazy expensive fancy shoes. And I'm like, 'Well, if you want that, you can work 1,000 hours.'" Do you understand what I mean? Minimum wage. And if you work 1,000 hours, you might not want to spend it on a pair of sneakers.
Affleck also said that his eldest children, Violet and Seraphina, are now employed and have "classic teenager" professions.
