On Tuesday, Google announced the extension of NotebookLM's Audio Overviews function. The artificial intelligence (AI) capability may generate an entertaining podcast-style audio debate on any topic as long as a source is attached to a note. Audio Overviews have two AI hosts, a male and a female voice, who discuss the topic, respond to it, and contextualize the material in a conversational manner. Google is currently expanding the NotebookLM functionality to over 50 additional languages.
NotebookLM's audio overviews are now available in Hindi
NotebookLM was initially published in June 2024 as a research assistant. Users can use documents, Web URLs, or copy-paste text as sources. Based on these sources, the platform may create summaries, briefings, study aids, and frequently asked questions (FAQs). A Gemini-powered chatbot may also respond to user questions regarding the issue.
While beneficial, the platform did not acquire much traction until September 2024, when the Mountain View-based tech behemoth introduced a novel feature known as Audio Overviews. The technology that could convert any paper into an audio podcast rapidly increased the platform's popularity among users.
To change the output language, users must navigate to Settings and select Output Language. Users may adjust the language in the new menu by navigating to the top-right corner. Notably, the Output Language is set by default to the language associated with the user's Google account.
Google emphasizes that non-English language support is presently in testing, and hence prone to mistakes. Users should double-check the produced audio for glitches.
