Jimmy Kimmel has finally broken his silence after being labeled a hypocrite by critics of President Donald Trump for his attacks at him on The Man Show from 1999 to 2003.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, the late-night presenter stated, "It's fair game. I think it's kind of interesting, since the folks who are citing those videos as an example of why I'm a bad guy were arguably the show's biggest fans at the time."
"We did the show a little tongue-in-cheek," the 57-year-old explained.
The comic continued, "If you really watch the show, you will notice that we make fun of ourselves almost the entire time."
"It was not meant to be taken literally that men are superior to women, but for some people, it was," Jimmy told me.
The late-night host stated that it was "meant to be Homer Simpson-esque".
However, Jimmy pointed out, "You may take things out of context and interpret them literally. And that's how things go."
In an earlier interview with New York Magazine in October 2017, the late-night host expressed embarrassment about the show at the time.
"I shudder when I think of all of the shows I've done. My idea of hell is a collection of monitors with my past performances playing on them. But, of course, and not for the reasons you might expect," he remarked.
Meanwhile, Jimmy told Rolling Stone that now that he is "older" and "matured," he will not make a joke "if a person of that color or persuasion was in the room."
When discussing the social media criticism, the comedian and presenter stated, "I think a lot of the outrage is completely manufactured, and it's like, a lot of these people who are angry aren't really angry."
"I think these liberals who've done such a good job of viciously attacking comedians are a big part of the reason why Trump is the president right now," he told reporters.
