As Prince Archie approaches his sixth birthday on May 6, King Charles is reminded of what royal historian Jennie Bond describes as his "greatest sadness."
According to The Mirror, the king, who is presently having cancer treatment, remains estranged from Prince Harry and, as a result, has spent little time with his youngest grandkids, Archie and Lilibet.
"He always loved Harry - he called him 'darling boy'," Bond told the publication. "And I'm sure he still does love Harry and would love even more to be able to spend time with Archie and Lilibet."
Charles has supposedly only met Lilibet once and seen Archie a few times. While he is known to have regular video conversations with the Sussexes, pals say he wishes for a genuine relationship with the children.
"Charles is a sentimental man and a doting grandfather to George, Charlotte and Louis," Bond said in addition. "I am sure..." He reflects on the huge loss of not being able to spend time with Harry's children."
Charles is not the only one who remains away. Bond mentioned that Harry and Prince William are still not on speaking terms.
"I always imagined Harry and William remaining close and enjoying watching their children grow up together," she told me. "But there is absolutely no sign of the cousins ever getting to know one another."
