During a recent visit outside Durham Cathedral to attend the annual Maundy ceremony, King Charles charmed and amused royal admirers.
Greeting the throng, the king had a lighthearted moment with Pat Johnson, 54, of South Tyneside, who congratulated him on his robust look.
Johnson, who had brought her 18-month-old Pembrokeshire Corgi named Lilibet as a moving tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth, informed the King that he looked well.
The King smiled and said, "You are very kind, it's all smoke and mirror," which elicited laughs from others close.
His attendance at the Maundy ceremony represents a noteworthy return to royal responsibilities following a hiatus due to health issues.
The king was recently hospitalised in late March as part of his ongoing cancer treatment, although he has showed positive indications of improvement.
