King Charles was overjoyed to be reunited with an old friend during an unusual visit to support a worthy cause.
During his four-day journey to Italy with his wife Queen Camilla, the king visited the Basilica of St Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, which left him "truly enchanted".
Charles met with Federico Marchetti in his hometown as part of their ongoing efforts to utilize fashion as a force for good.
Federico and Charles had known one other for years. Since 2021, Federico has led the Fashion Task Force for King's Sustainable Market Initiative, a project near to the monarch's heart.
Charles and the designer inspected the elaborate mosaics from the fifth and sixth centuries, listening to their fascinating history.
Federico stated that returning to his birthplace, especially alongside the British monarch, "felt truly magical".
"What a joy it was to watch the King, amazed, appreciate the incredible mosaics of the Basilica of San Vitale — mosaics he had surely read about in detail in the book Ravenna by Judith Herrin, which I gave him as a gift several years ago," Federico told the news publication People.
He further stated that the King was "truly enchanted by such spiritual beauty." I must admit that I was moved again."
Charles has always been an advocate for sustainability, and his collaboration with Federico "focus[es] on everything related to fashion, because fashion is actually a very polluting industry."
