Omid Scobie, a royal novelist and journalist, is swapping truth for fiction after landing a television deal for his upcoming new book.
Scobie's third royal book, following 2020's Finding Freedom and 2023's Endgame, will be a romance novel named "Royal Spin," according to rumors.
According to GB News, the novel is set within the gates of Buckingham royal and follows a fictional royal press officer. It is characterized as love fiction. This is a significant move for Scobie, who is best known for documenting Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's royal departure in Finding Freedom.
The UK and Commonwealth rights to Royal Spin have been acquired by Sphere Fiction.
Scobie has collaborated with Robin Benway, author of Far From the Tree, to bring the concept to reality, with publication scheduled for early 2026.
And even before a single book reaches the market, Universal Television has obtained the rights to adapt the novel for the screen.
The planned book combines Scobie's insider knowledge of palace public relations with Benway's writing skills, providing a new (but familiar) take on royal intrigue.
The Duchess of Sussex's role in Finding Freedom was first denied. Court filings later revealed that Meghan had authorized a friend to meet with Scobie "to prevent any further misrepresentation."
