Meghan Markle discusses the business advice she received from Oprah Winfrey.
Meghan Markle recently exposed her emotions on her sleeve and revealed the advice she received from Oprah Winfrey ahead of her brand launch.
The entire event was revealed on a recent episode of the Confessions of a Female Founder podcast, which included Jamie Kern Lima, the co-founder of IT Cosmetics.
The Duchess began this trip down memory lane by acknowledging that, while she could have "put her name on" product after product, Oprah advised her to choose one that "encapsulates her essence."
She was also cited as adding, "In the beginning, I just enjoyed cooking jam. All I wanted to do was create jam and preserves, and it progressed from, 'Okay, well, I'll share this jam with a lot of friends and family. People like it, and it makes me happy, so perhaps I can share it more widely. But, even then, I was so afraid of failure or rejection that I didn't think large enough at first.
Nonetheless, "Oprah, who I know is a mentor and friend to you, same for me, she was the one who said there are tons of things you could put your name on, but for you and how you like to show up for people, once you figure out how to encapsulate your essence, then you'll know and it was so clear."
Furthermore, "even as I'm listening to your story, the essence of who you are was about feeling seen, knowing that you're enough, knowing that you're beautiful, despite what anybody would say, and putting that essence in a product that could be shared with millions of people," she went on to say to her guest.
