Serena Williams, the American professional tennis champion who has made headlines for publicly mocking her ex Drake, has lately spoken out about the actual cost of celebrity in Hollywood.
Serena has accomplished everything at the age of 43, including 23 Grand Slam titles, a reign as the world's top tennis player, and the development of her own popular beauty line, WYN Beauty.
Behind the scenes, the starlet, who has two children with husband Alexis Ohanian, has long struggled to balance her job with her family and relationships.
The beauty entrepreneur told PEOPLE during her WYN Beauty x Shopify pop-up event, "Yeah, it definitely costs a lot."
"I'm here [in California] without my children, which is a significant expense for me since I spend a lot of time with them, and they're extremely close to me, which I like. So there's always a cost," she explained.
The four-time Olympic gold winner stated that her professional choices have come at a great cost, and she has spent a lot of time considering if they are actually worthwhile in the end.
She explained: "My entire life, I've had to weigh, like, 'If I want to win a championship, how much will it cost me?'"
"It will cost me time with my family, friendships, and relationships."
"And they're really pricey. You have to determine whether it's worthwhile for you."
For those unfamiliar, music legend Drake and Serena Williams had a brief but memorable affair that drew a lot of attention, with the ex-lovers seen hanging around at events.
