Jimmy Smits played Bail Organa in Star Wars, but owing to schedule conflicts, he was replaced as Andor.
Benjamin Bratt now portrays the character, but he has kind words for the actor who portrayed it for more than two decades.
"I've always known Jimmy to be a wonderful performer. He has the elegance, natural grace, decency, and seriousness that this character demands," he noted in an interview, raving about Jimmy.
"It is clear he takes the role seriously, and came to play in a series that focuses on the more understated parts of the Rebel Alliance," the actor who played Poker Face noted.
Benjamin also explained what drew him to Bail Organa as a character. "We discover that he's a clever tactician who can deliver some heat where it's required. That's what intrigued me to the role," he explained.
Meanwhile, the series' creator, Tony Gilroy, recently stated why Jimmy did not reprise his role.
"It's difficult to bring heritage characters back for a variety of reasons. Money, timing, and, frankly, he [Jimmy Smitts] was just not available. "It did not work out," the showrunner told Screen Rant.
"He was doing his other program, and we were under time constraints, so they couldn't work it out... They couldn't figure it out. Believe me, we tried hard, but it couldn't happen."
Andor's most recent episodes have been released on Disney+.
