According to The Information, Apple plans to reshuffle its iPhone release calendar next year when it launches the first foldable iPhone to make things more manageable. According to the publication, the foldable will be released with the iPhone 18 Pro and "Air" variants, while the ordinary iPhone 18 will be delayed until spring 2027, along with an iPhone 16E follow-up.
With the smaller model in the lineup and a foldable coming in 2026, The Information believes Apple will need to rearrange things to keep a growing six-iPhone lineup reasonable. According to the site, the foldable would have a book-style form factor rather than a clamshell, with a 5.7-inch screen when folded and a display slightly under 8 inches when open. Supply chain expert Ming-Chi Kuo earlier stated that it will be 4.5-4.8mm thick when unfurled and will employ Face ID rather than Touch ID.
The story also mentions that Apple will provide a new battery cover for the iPhone 17 Air, since testing has revealed that the phone's battery life "will fall short of that of previous iPhones." According to The Information, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max versions will include long-rumored under-display Face ID sensors, leaving only a "small hole cutout in the top-left corner" for the phone's front-facing camera.
