The Marvel Cinematic Universe blinked, and Disney seized the chance to secure the most coveted summer spots.
As the MCU postponed its most anticipated films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, from their original May release dates to December 2026 and 2027, respectively, Disney saw an opportunity and took it.
Avengers: Doomsday has been postponed from May 1, 2026 to December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars has been pushed back from May 7, 2027 to December 17, 2027.
Notably, as the capes fall back, the mouse advances.
Disney wasted no time in claiming the now-vacant early summer slot, which has usually been earmarked for movie office domination.
In a daring move, the studio has scheduled Devil Wears Prada 2 for May 1, 2026, the same day as Doomsday, and will feature Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom rather than Iron Man.
It appears to be a clever move by the Mouse House, since it not only fills the vacuum left by Marvel's release schedule shift, but also indicates that Disney isn't relying on superheroes to stay on top.
