Miley Cyrus claimed that she had experienced an ovarian cyst burst during a concert, which left her frightened for months.
In a recent interview on the May 21 episode of The Zane Lowe Interview Series on Apple Music 1, the pop singer discussed her terrifying health fight, an ovarian cyst rupture, which occurred while presenting her Miley's New Year's Eve Party special on NBC in 2023 with co-host Dolly Parton.
"I had a pretty traumatic experience on a show that I was doing with Lorne when I was doing my New Year's show," Miley told Entertainment Tonight.
"I experienced a medical emergency. "My ovarian cyst ruptured."
According to the singer, she was mid-performance and "didn't know exactly what was going on" when she felt agony in her abdomen. She finished the live concert despite the severe discomfort, even performing duets with Dolly, Sia, and Paris Hilton.
"It was pretty traumatic because it was extremely excruciating and I did the show anyway," says Miley. "But it was really, really hard on me."
The health issue had such an impact on her that she considered giving up music entirely.
However, a lengthy talk with Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels held her back from making a huge choice.
"I had dinner with Lorne and he said something that now has stuck with me," Miley told me. "He goes, 'Six months—everybody has six months to feel sorry for themselves and then we start to rebuild.'"
"He's like, 'You have no idea how many artists have sat in this chair and told me they were quitting music,'" she joked. "'Everyone does this.'"
