Selena Gomez is happy at Taylor Swift's victory against the music masters

 

Selena Gomez is celebrating a big triumph for her longtime pal Taylor Swift. On May 30, the Only Murders in the Building star expressed her delight on Instagram when Swift verified she now owns her master recordings.

"YES YOU DID THAT TAY," Gomez wrote in all caps on her Instagram Story, followed by the phrase "So proud!"

Swift, 35, had already announced the news with a brilliantly titled Instagram picture that read, "You belong with me," a reference to her Fearless single from 2008.

Swift was seen seated on the floor of a picture studio, dressed in a light purple shirt, trousers, and her distinctive red lipstick. She grinned, surrounded by vinyl copies of her first six albums, which had been the subject of a years-long ownership dispute.

Swift's masters were sold in 2019 to record executive Scooter Braun, who then sold them to Shamrock Capital, a private equity business. In reaction, Swift famously began re-recording her albums under the name Taylor's Version in order to restore artistic and economic control over her earlier work.

Throughout it all, Gomez was a consistent supporter.

The two pop singers' relationship began in 2008, when they were met through the Jonas Brothers.

In a 2017 interview with KISS FM UK, Gomez recalled their early friendship, saying, "We actually dated the Jonas Brothers together!" "It was hilarious."

She said, "It was wonderful, because [Taylor] was the girl with the huge curly hair, all the bracelets, and the cowboy boots. And I was obviously up and rising, and we immediately clicked. It was the nicest thing we gained from those partnerships."
