Qualcomm said on Tuesday that it has extended its relationship with Xiaomi. As part of a new multi-year deal, Xiaomi will equip its forthcoming premium smartphones with Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon CPUs. Both firms have collaborated for the previous 15 years, and many of Xiaomi's high-end smartphones, including the current Xiaomi 15 model, use Snapdragon CPUs. The business has also stated that its next flagship phone would be one of the first to use Qualcomm's next high-end Snapdragon processor.
Xiaomi to be among the first to use the next-generation Snapdragon chip
Qualcomm and Xiaomi have signed a new multi-year arrangement in which the latter will continue to equip its premium smartphones with Snapdragon 8-series CPUs in China and other territories. After 15 years of Xiaomi using Snapdragon CPUs in its devices, the businesses renewed their relationship.
The Xiaomi 15 was released in China last year with a Snapdragon 8 Elite CPU, and its rumored sequel, the Xiaomi 16, will also use Qualcomm's next flagship chipset, the Snapdragon Elite 2, which is slated to come later this year.
The news practically confirms that the Xiaomi 16 would be among the first flagship smartphones to have the Snapdragon 8 Elite successor later this year. Qualcomm also stated that Xiaomi will raise volume with each year of the multi-year arrangement.
Qualcomm has also revealed that the Snapdragon Summit will take place earlier this year, on September 23-25. The chipmaker's annual event is usually held in October, and the move to release its next flagship chip a month earlier than normal may offer phone manufacturers more time to equip their premium phones with the chipset.
The successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite is expected to have up to 25% higher performance and compatibility for next-generation LPDDR6 RAM. It might be made utilizing TSMC's N3P (3nm) process technology, which is more efficient than the company's current chipset.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi is aiming to release the XRING 01 SoC as its own smartphone CPU. The business is anticipated to release further information on the microprocessor later this month. It was just discovered on Geekbench, and its benchmark ratings place it somewhere between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite in terms of performance.
The next Xiaomi 15s Pro is likely to be the first smartphone to include the XRING 01, and it will be released in China on May 22. Thanks to the extended deal with Qualcomm, we know that the XRING processor will not replace Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon CPUs on the company's most costly models in the coming years.
