On Thursday, Xiaomi debuted the YU7, its latest electric vehicle (EV). It joins Xiaomi's increasing fleet of electric vehicles, which already includes the Xiaomi SU7 sedan and its high-performance counterpart, the SU7 Ultra. The Xiaomi YU7 shares design similarities with the current SU7 sedan, notably a very identical front fascia. The EV is powered by the proprietary Xiaomi Super Motor V6s Plus, which produces 690 PS of maximum horsepower and pushes it to a stated top speed of 253 kilometers per hour (kmph). The EV employs innovative CTB integrated battery technology, which is claimed to provide a maximum range of 835 kilometers (CLTC).
Xiaomi YU7 Availability and Color Options
Xiaomi has yet to reveal the price of the YU7 EV, although sales will begin in China in July. It will be offered in three models: Standard, Pro, and Max, with varying performance and maximum range. Buyers may select from three exterior color options for the electric SUV: Emerald Green, Titanium Silver, and Lava Orange. There are three interior colour choices available. These include a light-toned Pine Gray, Coral Orange, and Twilight Blue.
Xiaomi YU7 Design Elements
The Xiaomi YU7's cabin design is similar to the Ferrari Purosangue, the Italian automaker's high-performance four-door SUV. The EV takes the Xiaomi SU7's "waterdrop headlights" and revamps them with a hollowed-out shape that provides 180-degree ultra-wide-angle illumination. Meanwhile, the halo tail light has downward-angled corners, and Xiaomi has employed the electric-flush door handle system on the YU7, which keeps the handles recessed when the car is in motion, reducing aerodynamic drag.
The YU7's design, which builds on the Xiaomi SU7's multi-duct architecture, has 10 through-flow air channels and 19 optimized vents for airflow management. The business says that the electric SUV, which has a unibody design, achieves a drag coefficient of Cd 0.245, resulting in a 59km increase in CLTC range over its pre-optimisation efficiency estimates.
The EV's dimensions are 4,999 x 1,996 x 1,600mm, it weighs 2,405kg, and it has a 3,000mm wheelbase. Xiaomi claims that the YU7 has passed over 50 passive safety development tests as well as all crash requirements under the C-NCAP and C-IASI protocols.
Xiaomi YU7 Features: Cabin Experience
Xiaomi claims that the YU7's interiors follow a "Dual-Zone Surround Luxury Cabin" design concept. The EV has 100% soft-touch surfaces in high-contact areas and seats upholstered in Nappa leather.
It boasts twin zero-gravity front chairs for the driver and passenger, with one-touch reclining and 10-point massage capabilities. The rear seats include adjustable 135-degree recliners. The Xiaomi SU7's interior space is said to be more spacious than competitors', with 100 mm of front headroom, 77 mm of back headroom, and 73 mm of rear legroom.
With the Xiaomi YU7, the Chinese manufacturer adds two new features: Xiaomi HyperVision Panoramic Display and a remote control panel. The former uses a triple Mini LED screen array with Panoramic Curved Projection Technology to show extensive information onto the lower windshield region. It shows dynamic turn-by-turn navigation in the viewing zone, while the Simulate Reality road mapping function delivers additional information regarding real-time traffic conditions when driver assistance systems are activated. It has customizable instrument readouts, media controls, time zones, weather updates, and navigation. Xiaomi claims the HyperVision Panoramic Display is supported by a remote control panel that provides instant access to the EV's control, navigation, and entertainment capabilities.
The vehicle is outfitted with a 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which powers the cockpit and performs tasks such as boot up, app launch, and touch response. It is supplemented with an Nvidia Drive AGX Thor in-vehicle computing platform for assisted driving, which provides 700 TOPS of computational power. As per Xiaomi, it also features Nvidia's Blackwell architecture which brings support for on-device large models to improve the assisted driving experience. The entirety of the Xiaomi YU7 is equipped with LiDAR which, along with seven ultra-transparent anti-glare cameras and a 4D millimeter-wave radar.
The Xiaomi YU7 has a total storage capacity of 1,970 litres, which includes a 141 litre front trunk (often known as a frunk) and a 678 liter main luggage compartment that can be expanded to 1,758 litres when the rear seats are folded.
Xiaomi SU7 Performance and Battery Figures
In terms of stats, the Xiaomi YU7's dual-motor four-wheel drive version has a maximum horsepower of 690 PS, a peak power of 508 kW, a 0-100 acceleration time of 3.23 seconds, and a top speed of 253 kilometers per hour. It's powered by Xiaomi HyperEngine V6s Plus electric motors. The business has also improved power modules and optimized topology optimization algorithms to boost RPM, torque, and power numbers.
The Xiaomi YU7's entry-level Standard model has a 96.3kWh battery pack that provides an 835km range (CLTC). Meanwhile, the Pro (96.3kWh battery) and Max (101.7kWh battery) versions have CLTC ranges of 760 and 770 km, respectively. It is equipped with an 800V silicon carbide high-voltage platform with a peak voltage of 897V, allowing the EV to charge at a maximum pace of 5.2C. Because of this, the Xiaomi YU7 can be charged from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes and has a 620km range after only 15 minutes of charging.
The EV has a quadruple braking system that includes four-piston fixed calipers from Brembo. It features front double wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension, a closed double-chamber air spring with continuous damper adjustment, and Xiaomi's smart chassis. The suspension uses closed dual-chamber air springs to provide five height adjustment levels, with a maximum up and down adjustment range of 75mm and a maximum ground clearance of 222mm.
The Xiaomi YU7, which will be available for purchase in July, is expected to compete with the Tesla Model X and BYD Sealion 07 in China's extremely competitive EV market.
