Prince Andrew looks to be returning to action, albeit warily, as conversations begin about a significant promotion for his two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
The Duke of York, who has been at odds with his brother King Charles over Royal Lodge, has been secretly making improvements to ensure he can continue to live in the 30-room home despite the budgetary constraints.
According to prior reports, the monarch has been attempting to persuade his disgraced brother to relocate into Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's old residence, Frogmore Cottage, in order to reduce the load on the Crown. However, the problematic royal has continued to ignore the King's commands on the topic.
According to property expert Robin Edwards, rather than consenting to move into a low-maintenance home, particularly after Andrew was financially cut off from royal funding and security, the 65-year-old prince hired a low-cost security business.
The expert added that Andrew has "apparently been forced to economise and hire a low-cost security firm to guard him and the Royal Lodge."
He continued: "However, he has refused to leave his lavish mansion and move to the significantly smaller Frogmore Cottage, believing it to be not grand enough for him."
Andrew, who obtained the 75-year lease from the Crown Estate in August 2003, is presently personally supporting the property's upkeep and security procedures, and the cost is "considerable".
"Even back in September 2002 that was very conservatively estimated at least £7.5 million excluding tax," Mr. Edwards said. "The costs are likely to have grown significantly since then with time and inflation."
Furthermore, because the property is beyond Windsor Castle's protective perimeter, security expenses are "substantially higher".
The update on Andrew's Royal Lodge comes as royal expert Ingrid Seward suggests that Beatrice and Eugenie will be promoted, particularly when Prince William ascends to the throne.
"When William ascends the throne, Beatrice and Eugenie will be valuable assets, and I'm certain they will get involved with royal duties," she told Hello!, a magazine. "It makes perfect sense, because he will need them."
She also mentioned that the King adores his nieces, which is why they are frequently called to conduct specific jobs to serve the monarchy by the king. William aims to "completely exclude" his uncle.
It may imply that Andrew is hoping that his girls will be able to protect him from any consequences. However, it remains to be seen how this plays out.
