Prince Harry made a dramatic U-turn after declaring a wish to heal a years-long schism with the royal family.
For the uninformed, the Duke of Sussex stated in an interview with the BBC that he want to reconcile with the royals following a big setback in his UK security case.
He disclosed that his father, King Charles, is not speaking to him due to a court fight in their country, and expressed concern over the monarch's health while he endures cancer treatment.
However, shortly after making the peace negotiations offer, the Daily Mail reported that Harry'sought counsel' from his uncle Earl Spence about altering his royal surname Mountbatten-Windsor to Spencer in order to commemorate his late mother Princess Diana.
Regarding Harry's unexpected action, royal analyst Charles Rae stated that he sent a 'awful' message to senior royals following the surname debate, which originated from a supposedly legitimate source.
In an interview with The Sun, he stated: "It was only less than a month ago that he was pleading for reconciliation with his father and brother."
Charles went on: "And the next thing we hear, and I think the story was well sourced, he wants to change the name from Mountbatten-Windsor to Spencer."
"Well, that is sending a terrible message to the royal family that he doesn't really want a reconciliation," the royal advisor said.
