A powerful earthquake in northwest Iran kills at least three people. DUBAI: A 5.9 magnitude earthquake slammed northwest Iran near the Turkish border on Saturday, killing at least three people and injured more than 300, according to official media.
The official news agency IRNA published the death toll, citing the head of emergency services at the university in Khoy, near the centre of the earthquake.
According to a state TV emergency official, it was snowing in parts of the impacted districts, with freezing temperatures and some power outages reported.
Major geological faultlines crisscross Iran, which has recently seen multiple severe earthquakes.
