For the first time since Lisa Marie Presley's terrible death earlier this month, Austin Butler reflected on his close connection to her.
During his most recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Elvis Presley, 31, discussed his friendship with the late Lisa Marie.
"I met Lisa for the first time when we exhibited the film at Graceland," Butler recounted. "And I've never had an occasion when I met someone and immediately felt a deep connection to them."
""She was a person who didn't have anything to prove and wouldn't open up to everyone, and she simply opened up to me," he said solemnly, "and we grew so close, so fast. So, yeah, it's just awful."
Butler portrayed Elvis Presley's father in his biopic Elvis, for which he received an Oscar nod for Best Lead Actor in 2023.
Butler said that on their first meeting, Lisa Marie showed him through the renowned Graceland complex, including Elvis' shoes and his real bedroom.
"I get chills," Butler said. "That was after we screened the film, and his bedroom is a location that most people never get to see. 'I want to show you something,' she said. And she drove me up there, and we just sat in his room. And up there, he wasn't Elvis, just dad, you know?"
"And so, hearing those stories, I will absolutely appreciate it for the rest of my life," he concluded.
Lisa Marie died of heart collapse just two days after Butler received a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal in Elvis.
