Marc Maron recently defended To Leslie co-star Andrea Riseborough.
Marc highlighted the Oscar issue surrounding an inquiry into the Academy Awards' regulations for internet campaigns following Andrea's Best Actress nomination on the most recent edition of his WTF podcast.
"Apparently, the Academy of Motion Picture Sciences, or whatever it is, has chosen to look into Andrea Riseborough's grassroots effort for an Oscar nomination," the 59-year-old added.
"Because I think it so undermines their system that they're entirely bought out by corporate interests in the shape of studios," he concluded.
"Millions of dollars [are] invested into months and months of advertising campaigns, publicity, screenings by huge corporate entertainment corporations, and Andrea was championed by her peers through a grassroots movement, which was pushed through by a few performers," revealed an American comic.
"'Well, we must look at this,' says the Academy. This is not how things are meant to function. "Independent artists do not deserve the Academy's attention until we see exactly how it works," Marc remarked.
"So we're going to check at this," the Joker actor said.
Marc thought that "nothing questionable will be revealed because the recognition is not undeserved and that Andrea's name would still be in the running".
"Nothing will happen as a result of an Academy Awards probe. The campaign was serious, and it was well-deserved," he continued.
