Maggie Wheeler of 'Friends' devised 'Janice laugh' to deal with 'funny' Matthew Perry. Maggie Wheeler, who portrayed Janice on Friends, stated that she invented her character's renowned "laugh" in order to work with "funny" Matthew Perry.
In an interview with OK! Magazine, the Parent Trap actress admitted that it was the "biggest difficulty to not laugh" when working with Perry.
So, in order to survive Perry on the NBC programme, Wheeler invented the obnoxious chuckle. "Working with geniuses always makes you better," the 61-year-old added.
"It was a blessing to be able to play off of and appreciate him. It was the most difficult challenge not to laugh during the shoot!" Wheeler spoke up.
"Because I wasn't a regular, the regulars laughed all the time - it was part of their everyday work day, but I was a little more uptight about it."
"'Well, I don't want to slow things down!' I say. I don't want to stymie everyone.' That's why I made Janice's laugh so I could tolerate Matthew's hilarious antics "The actor went on.
Wheeler had no idea Janice's laugh would become a worldwide sensation. "I was just thinking, 'He's going to make me laugh, so I best laugh as Janice,'" she said.
"I was so happy and ecstatic when they brought me back a second time because I thought, 'Wow, she gets to come back again,' and then again and again."
She went on to say, "It was completely unexpected, and it couldn't have been a greater, more fantastic opportunity."
Despite her involvement in other productions, Wheeler is most recognised for her performance in the comedic series. "I completely embrace her. She's my friend, and she lives inside of me. I'm delighted to bring her out and make people laugh "She stated.
