Pedro Pascal's acting in HBO's live-action series The Last of Us has received widespread acclaim.
Pascal, 47, appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday evening, following the release of the third episode, and offered a story about how he got the much-lauded character of Joel.
The Chilean actor stated that he was in London working when he received a video chat from showrunner Craig Mazin and video game designer Neil Druckmann.
"I was provided these scripts and informed that "Craig Mazin wants you to read the scripts. And if you're interested in them, he'd want to speak with you." Chernobyl was a favourite of mine. 'The miniseries he — show ran for HBO,' Pascal explained.
"And they said, 'Will you stay up a little longer?'" It was becoming late in London at this time. 'To speak with Neil Druckmann, the designer of the video game.' Brilliant."
Pascal was cast as Joel as a consequence of the call, and he was so delighted that he had to take a sleeping pill since it was so late. "But then I receive a call saying I got the job after taking the Ambien..."
Pascal went on to say that he was "excited, I think, but I don't recall."
When Pascal awoke the next day, he'd entirely forgotten he'd won the position; "the first thing that occurred to me was like, 'Oh, man, I really want that job,'" he said. And I'm now in London. They're in Los Angeles. I'm going to stand by the phone all day. This hasn't happened in a long time. I'm going to miss you. And I'll be thinking about that all day."
He looked at his phone and saw the excellent news. "Of course, I got the job."
The Last of Us airs on HBO and HBO Max on Sundays.
