Meghan Markle and Prince Harry presently live in a gorgeous Montecito property worth $15 million, but Meghan once thought they couldn't afford it.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex retired as senior royals in 2020 and relocated to the United States, where they spent much of the COVID epidemic at a Santa Barbara house belonging by friend Tyler Perry.
When it came time to explore for houses to buy for themselves, Meghan told The Cut last year that they realised they were unemployed and couldn't afford to buy the places that piqued their interest.
"We were looking in this region and this house kept cropping up online in searches," Meghan said of the $14.65 million Montecito home. We didn't have any work, therefore we weren't going to view this house."
"It couldn't be done. "It's like when I was younger and you were window shopping—I don't want to go and look at all the stuff that I can't afford—that doesn't feel good," she continued.
However, after negotiating lucrative partnerships with Spotify and Netflix, as well as Harry's book contract with Penguin Random Residence, Prince Harry and Meghan were able to finalise a purchase on their ideal house.
Since then, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have produced a number of projects, including Meghan's Spotify podcast Archetypes, a Netflix documentary named Harry & Meghan, and Harry's memoir Spare.
