Meghan Markle, who married Prince Harry in 2018, celebrated their life-changing events with Prince William, Kate Middleton, and other senior royals at Kensington Palace to announce their new relationship.
In 2017, Harry and Meghan revealed to the world that they had been engaged and were getting married. The couple famously posed for photos at Kensington Palace, the present residence of the Prince and Princess of Wales, before settling down for an interview with the BBC.
Prince William and Kate Middleton were cheerful and upbeat at the Palace's historic celebration commemorating Meghan and Harry's engagement.
During the conversation, the couple, who now live in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, revealed that they were roasting a chicken when Harry proposed to Meghan, presenting her with a stunning engagement ring adorned with diamonds from the late Princess Diana.
However, when the Sussexes' controversial docuseries premiered on Netflix some years later, they told a significantly different story about the night they got engaged.
In the show, Harry revealed that he proposed to Meghan outside in the romantic candle-lit garden of Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, rather than indoors, and shared a photo of himself down on one knee during the nighttime picnic before asking Meghan to marry.
In the performance, he explained that he 'wanted to do it sooner' but needed to get permission from the Queen before asking Meghan, so he couldn't do it outside the UK.
Regarding his proposal, Harry explained: "I did open a bottle of champagne while she was preparing a chicken, which kind of gave the game away.
"In the middle of the North garden, overlooked by the staff flats, I got 15 of those electric candles," Harry recalled, while Meghan admitted: "He told me not to peek," before a video is shown of Meghan filming herself in hushed tones telling friend Jess on the phone: "It's actually happening!"
