Following harsh fan reactions, Luke Grimes spoke details about John Dutton's awful death in Yellowstone.
In an interview with People, the 40-year-old actor stated that the death of Kevin Costner's character on the show's November 10 return date was prearranged.
"There's been some negative reactions," Grimes responded to fans' outrage when Dutton was discovered dead from a deadly gunshot wound in the last minutes of the episode.
"I think they feel deceived. And what I would say to that is that I believe we were all fortunate to have Kevin on the program for as long as we did," he continued.
"It was always the plan for him to go away for the story to really ramp up," according to Grimes. "That was the story." You lose your family's patriarch. Can the children accomplish it on their own?
Grimes, who recently had his first kid with wife Bianca Rodrigues Grimes, also said that Dutton's death was long planned.
"I think originally he was supposed to die much earlier," his wife said. "So, in a manner, they received a lot more John Dutton than they expected. "I'd keep that in mind."
Grimes portrayed Kayce Dutton, Dutton's youngest son, in the blockbuster drama, which follows the Dutton family as they face the obstacles of sustaining their huge ranching enterprise.
Costner, 69, played the Dutton patriarch for five seasons, beginning in 2018 and ending with his death on November 10.
