King Charles looks to be leaning toward a less conventional Christmas party at Sandringham Castle, particularly after Prince William and Kate Middleton revealed their intentions.
The royal family traditionally meets at the Scottish palace to celebrate the holiday season, but William and Kate's friends have revealed that the pair has other plans.
Following the announcement, a royal specialist said that the queen is also planning to modify some of the royal regulations, but with care.
"Christmas at Sandringham has been absolutely central to the family for years, and that legacy looks certain to continue with Charles," royal analyst Duncan Larcombe told the Mirror.
"I don't think Charles will exactly rip up the rule book, but there's a strong chance he'll loosen some of the rules," Larcombe told me.
"I think a lot of the more stoic aspects of Christmas were down to the Duke of Edinburgh, who was a stickler for timings," he said later. "But I think the King is more relaxed about these things."
Meanwhile, The Daily Beast reports that William and Kate will have a "rival Christmas party" at their property, Anmer Hall, in addition to the ceremonial celebrations at Sandringham.
Kate's parents, Mike and Carole, are due to attend the Christmas celebration at William and Kate's residence on the Sandringham estate.
Meanwhile, the annual full-family Christmas Walk to church is scheduled to continue as usual.
The Palace has yet to publish a statement on what to anticipate from the Sandringham celebrations this year.
