Victoria Beckham recently revealed a tragic truth about her son Romeo Beckham during an appearance at the 2024 Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards.
In an interview with The Mirror, the mother of four said that her family faced widespread public outrage after her husband, David Beckham, was dismissed from England's World Cup team in 1998.
Victoria said that she couldn't face the prospect of her son, Romeo, being publically tormented in the same manner David was following his significant departure from the club.
Furthermore, she said, "I mean, when it happened, David was the same age that Romeo is now."
Victoria commented, "But the thought of my Romeo having to go through all... I'm not sure how he would handle it. I'm not sure how anyone would manage that. But we had no option."
For those who don't know, David and Victoria's son Romeo is also a football player.
Speaking about her difficult moments, the former Spice Girls singer stated, "You have to go through those times to make you, ultimately, who you are."
"We've kind of figured out how to be quite discreet, which is just how we want to conduct our lives right now," Victoria told me.
"I think it used to be exciting to go out and be pursued by photographers while strolling down Bond Street, and you'd dress knowing you'd get it. "I don't want that anymore," the clothes designer stated.
David and Victoria were married in 1999. The couple has four children: Brooklyn Beckham (25), Romeo (22), Cruz Beckham (19), and Harper Beckham (13).
