Nothing OS 3.0 Open Beta 1 is now available for Phone 2 customers, the firm said on Tuesday. It allows customers to test the latest operating system (OS) upgrade and new features such as updated widgets, additional customization choices, and camera advancements prior of the public release in December. The beta program was launched last month with the Phone 2a and will be available for other handsets, including the CMF Phone 1, later this year.

Nothing says OS 3.0 Open Beta 1 is an exclusive preview of the Android 15-based OS. It includes the same functionality that the business released with the Nothing Phone 2a beta version in October. This includes the option to show widgets for friends and family on the device's home screen. Reactions allow users to connect and interact with one another.
The new version also includes more personalization choices for home and lock screens, allowing for more direct editing. Users may simply long-press the screen to enter edit mode and customize it with various clock faces, fonts, and design layouts. With the increased widget area, additional widgets may be added to the lock screen. The Quick Settings have been redesigned with new graphics, a more optimized editing experience, and a better library layout.
Nothing OS 3.0 has a feature called Smart Drawer, which uses artificial intelligence (AI). According to the business, it can automatically organize programs into various category files depending on use. It also adds convenience by putting the most-used apps to the top of the app drawer.
The camera experience has also received some tweaks. The list of changes includes decreased HDR processing time, enhanced low-light performance, a better zoom slider display, and a speedier camera widget startup.
Other improvements of the Nothing OS 3.0 Open Beta 1 upgrade include auto-archiving to free up storage space, a new dot matrix-themed fingerprint animation, partial screen recording, an improved setup wizard, and a new charging animation.
