Mikey Madison did not intend to murder one of the most popular characters in the Scream franchise.
The actress, who entered the franchise with the 2022 film Scream V, recently commented on her role as Ghostface and the emotional consequences of her character's decisions.
Madison, who was born after the original Scream released in 1996, confesses to originally underestimating the franchise's large fan following.
"I have to be honest, when I did the film, it sounds naive, but I wasn't so aware of the huge fan base that the franchise has, that I've now been able to discover," Madison told the news outlet Collider.
"Scream and horror fans and people who love horror films are the best people ever, but I really naively went into it."
Madison felt obligated to apologize after learning of the significant impact Dewey's death had on the Scream fans following the premiere of the film.
"I remember feeling sorry because I thought, 'Oh, such a fantastic character. It'll be sad to see him leave. And then I realized the pain that so many individuals had," she explained.
Madison stated that admirers questioned her over the on-screen incident.
The actress's frank views demonstrate her growing love for Scream's devoted fan base and the emotional depth of the franchise's history.
