King Charles III appears to be furious with Prince Andrew's suspected choice to admit a spy inside Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.
The 50-year-old Chinese businessman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was invited to Buckingham Palace twice, according to the Times.
"The 76-year-old monarch, who's busy in Christmas celebrations with the royal family members, seems to be in shock after learning about the news," a source told me.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has also spoken out on the Duke of York's ties to an accused spy, stating that the government will "be ready to take action".
Following the charges, Andrew's office has broken its silence, revealing the Duke's first remarks on his current controversy.
In a statement, Andrew's representatives said: "The Duke of York followed HMG advice and ceased all contact with the individual after concerns were raised."
"The Duke met with the individual through official channels, and no sensitive topics were mentioned. He is unable to talk further on national security issues."
When discussing potential security risks to the UK, Cooper stated: "Our security and intelligence agencies are constantly vigilant for any threat to UK national security, whether it be foreign influence, espionage, or any other security threat."
The Home Secretary stated, "We will not hesitate to take action in individual cases or more broadly, wherever a challenge arises."
Cooper took a cautious approach on addressing particular charges, saying, "We don't comment on individual cases, and we're also clear that wherever our intelligence and security agencies identify challenges or threats in individual cases, we will always be ready to take action."
"We always respect the decisions of the courts and also don't comment on individual cases."
