Tim Burton is not ruling out another creative collaboration with Johnny Depp.
Speaking to IndieWire at the Marrakech International Film Festival on Saturday, November 30, the famed filmmaker indicated that he is open to reconnecting with Depp on a future movie, depending on the content.
"Well, I'm sure there will be," Burton, 66, remarked when asked if he would work with Depp again. "I never think, 'Oh, I'm going to use this and that actor.'" It typically has to be related to the project I'm working on. This is what film is all about. It's about teamwork and bouncing ideas off others around you."
The couple originally worked together in 1990's Edward Scissorhands and went on to cooperate on films like Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Despite their rich creative history, Burton has made it plain that some ideas are best left alone.
During a Q&A session at the festival, Burton flatly denied that an Edward Scissorhands sequel was in the works. "There are certain films I don't want to make a sequel to," he told me. "It felt like a one-off thing."
He said that The Nightmare Before Christmas is likewise in that category, stating, "Certain things are best left on their own."
