Duchess Sophie arrived in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, on Tuesday without her husband, Prince Edward, who is also set to attend the six-day tour.
The Duchess of Edinburgh was dressed in a maroon long coat, which she seemed to wear over a black shirt and black leggings. The monarch was accompanied by Nepalese authorities as they led her to her vehicle at the airport.
Sophie's solo presence, which has earned her the nickname "King Charles' secret weapon for the monarchy," raised questions about whether plans had changed.
However, Prince Edward, who is closing up her four-day visit of India, is expected to join his wife later in the afternoon so that they may formally begin their tour.
The pair will be able to observe the splendor of the Himalayan nation when they visit the village of Ghandruk, which is nestled in the foothills with views of the Annapurna range.
King Charles' younger brother will attend the Attestation Parade for new Gurkha recruits at the British Gurkha Camp in the lakeside city of Pokhara.
The royal couple will also visit with healthcare groups that help survivors of trafficking and gender-based violence, a topic Sophie has strongly advocated for.
The visit, scheduled from February 4th to February 9th, will mark the newest chapter in Britain's relationship with Nepal.
