Chrissy Teigen, a model, novelist, and television personality known for her candor and wit, recently opened out about a highly personal chapter in her family's life.
Her 5-year-old son Miles was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, and his mother, Chrissy, acknowledged that watching him confront the battle brought her to tears.
Miles believed diabetes would prevent him from participating in sports, but meeting Nick Jonas at the Paris Olympics and witnessing other sportsmen with the same illness demonstrated him he could still pursue his aspirations.
John Legend's wife told PEOPLE, "Who better to run into than Nick Jonas, who showed us the gear and everything? He was very kind to Miles. It was great.
"I understand how much it matters to Miles to see himself in anyone. Some individuals have sent us videos of their friends who are soccer players with Type 1 diabetes, and you can see his eyes light up.
"I told him, 'Miles, you can now be that for other people!'" How awesome is that? "He truly is a little warrior."
After Miles was diagnosed, Chrissy and John, who married in 2013, spent time in and out of hospitals, taking notes and taping everything to learn how to use insulin.
