Colin Farrell discusses one of the most difficult decisions he has faced in his life.

The actor from Total Recall had already been going through a difficult time when his father died.

In an interview with Candis Magazine, the 48-year-old said that he intends to place his son James 'into a long-term care facility'.

The Dumbo alum recently disclosed that his 21-year-old kid was misdiagnosed with cerebral palsy, which was ultimately determined to be Angelman syndrome.

According to the Daily Mail, the Irish actor admitted that he came to this decision in order to have 'control over his care' while he is still alive and well.

Farrell admitted that some parents prefer to care for their children alone, but he is terrified about the possibility of having a 'heart attack tomorrow' and his ex Kim Bordenave, son's mother, being involved in a 'vehicle collision'.

The morbid thinking causes him to consider what would happen if the worst-case scenario occurred and James was left as the 'ward of the state'.

Angelman syndrome is a rare genetic illness that affects a person's neurological system, causing significant mental and physical handicap.
