Darren Hayes, the voice behind Savage Garden's songs, recently revealed a life-threatening accident that almost killed him.
On April 18, the 52-year-old musician told fans a hard truth: he fainted while getting out of bed last month, resulting in a shattered jaw and many missing teeth.
Though he had kept it private at first, Darren chose to tell his tale after understanding that his lengthy recuperation was a sign he needed to speak up.
He said on Instagram: "On March 17, two months to the day after my mother died, I experienced a tragic accident. I've tried to keep it hidden, but my long healing period has made it easier to admit the truth.
I lost awareness - After getting out of bed, I fainted and collapsed three times, each time losing consciousness. The blunt force damage was so severe that my left jawbone cracked in two. I awoke in a pool of blood, in excruciating pain on the left side of my skull, and with nine fractured teeth. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been discovered and sent to the incredible personnel at St John's Providence's emergency department in Santa Monica, where they responded immediately.
"I could have died if I landed in a different position."
Darren, who was recognized for his role in Savage Garden in the 1990s, had emergency surgery following the tragedy. But he still doesn't know what led him to faint in the first place.
