While Zac Efron starred in Baywatch as a lifeguard, his younger brother Dylan Efron had a real-life experience of lifesaving – and totally by mistake.
Dylan, 33, said on the April 17 edition of Brooke and Connor Make a Podcast how a casual excursion to Miami's South Beach on April 5 abruptly turned into a rescue effort.
"It was really random," he said, describing how he and his friend Brennan had just gone onto the sand when they noticed mayhem in the sea.
"The currents were ripping," Dylan claimed, describing the scenario in which five females were observed "screaming" and raising their hands for rescue - with no lifeguards in sight.
Dylan and Brennan dashed into action, hardly pausing for breath.
"We rushed out there. Dylan stated that the two closest to us already had a person assisting them in. "There were three out further, so I swam one in and swam back for another girl."
Dylan, who swam competitively in college, underlined how serious the circumstances were. "From where we jumped in, we ended up, like, a football field length away," he added, emphasizing how strong the current was.
He also described a touching incident that occurred after he took the second female to safety.
"The last girl I swam in, I was just trying to calm her down and just saying, 'Breath, breath,'" Dylan recalls. "She simply grabs me in the greatest hug and refuses to let go. We embraced for about a minute. I'm like, 'You're safe, you're OK.'"
Dylan stated he "just walked away" after making sure she was okay, which is very nonchalant for someone who had pulled off a complete Baywatch. Dylan's brave deeds rapidly gained attention on social media, yet he remained humble throughout the experience.
"I feel like I did what most people would have done in that situation," he told me.
Dylan has mostly avoided the spotlight in comparison to his renowned brother Zac, but he has quietly built an amazing career.
After graduating from California Polytechnic State University in 2013, he worked behind the scenes in Hollywood, and in 2020, he collaborated with Zac to develop Down to Earth.
Dylan rose to prominence after appearing in season 3 of The Traitors, where he was one of four winners earlier this year. Oh, and if that wasn't enough, March saw the release of his most recent documentary, The Fish That Saved a Village.
