When it comes to flying, Jennifer Aniston doesn't exactly "just go with it"—and she's not afraid to acknowledge it. The beloved Friends actor recently told out about her "extreme fear of flying," which hasn't prevented her from filming in lovely destinations like Kauai and Lake Como with her regular co-star Adam Sandler.
In an interview with Travel + Leisure published on April 17, Aniston revealed some of the peculiar behaviors she's acquired over the years to deal with her flying anxiety, such as tapping the exterior of the plane with her right palm and getting aboard with her right foot.
"But I have been doing some hypnosis lately, and one of the requirements is to remove all of those superstitions," she told me. "I have not been doing the right hand, right foot—and now it's shockingly good!"
Jennifer's ability to remain calm at 30,000 feet appears to be aided by more than just hypnosis. She often meditates on flights to calm her anxiety.
"Plugging into a good meditation can get you through," she told me. Plus, she's all about getting up to stretch and move about mid-flight—because who says you can't take a few steps when flying over the Atlantic?
Despite her fear of flying, Aniston's passion for travel keeps her passport well-stamped.
Her dream destination? "A white sandy beach and clear, crystal-blue water," she cheerfully stated.
When it comes to travel experiences, one birthday trip sticks out: "I've had a lot of really meaningful, wonderful trips, but there was one time where it was for my birthday with like 50 friends," she said.
"I said, 'Whoever wants to come, let's do this,' and many of them came. We spent around three days resting, relaxing, swimming, spa-ing, working out, eating, drinking, and simply enjoying ourselves. "That was really fun."
Jennifer views travel as more than just a vacation; it is a portal to a larger, more dynamic world outside her background in New York.
"There's more that exists than just this little bubble that we are in," she found herself thinking. "It's all very important and expands our awareness greater than what we're confined to."
