Jon Bernthal discussed the significant role he had in Tom Holland's Spider-Man adventure.
The two first collaborated in the 2017 film Pilgrimage, where they prepared for their respective Marvel personas.
In a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Bernthal claimed that he took "a little" credit for Holland's Spider-Man portrayal.
"We did a film about seven or eight years ago," he told me. "That's where Tom auditioned for Spider-Man and I auditioned for the Punisher." We recorded audition recordings for each other while working on the picture."
He recalled Holland's "focus" and "belief" throughout the audition, noting the actor kept telling himself, "I'm Spider-Man."
The Accountant star says he urged the Uncharted actor to show off his stunts on the audition tape.
"I told him, 'Tom, maybe you should run up that wall, do a double backflip, and then start the scene.'" And he said, "Yeah, do you think I should do that?" "That's not too much?" he said.
Bernthal proceeded, "I was like, 'I don't think any of these other fools are able to do that,' and he in fact did that," he told me. "It's not that I take responsibility for him, but you know, like a little something."
While they haven't been together in a Marvel film since 2017, the couple will rejoin for the first time in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which will release on July 17, 2026.
Meanwhile, Holland's Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set for release on July 31, 2026.
