The Palace revealed that Prince William would represent the royal family at Pope Francis' burial on Saturday.
Future King William will attend the event in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City on behalf of his father, King Charles III, and the royal family.
However, the Prince and Princess of Wales' office has not confirmed whether Kate Middleton will follow her husband to Italy, where global leaders and royals will gather to mourn the Pope.
However, a royal insider has confirmed that Kate will not accompany William to the Pope's burial. "The future king will fly solo."
Previously, the royal family has been flexible in incorporating their children on formal visits. For example, in 1983, Prince Charles and Princess Diana paid an official tour to Australia and New Zealand with 10-month-old Prince William.
Similarly, the Duke of Sussex began joining his parents on formal occasions at an early age. Whether Kate will accompany Prince William to Italy remains to be seen.
Following Francis's death on April 21 at the age of 88, British monarch King Charles issued a personal message.
He stated, "My wife and I were deeply saddened to learn of Pope Francis' death." Our sorrowful hearts are relieved, however, to know that His Holiness has been able to extend an Easter greeting to the Church and the world he served with such love during his life and service."
The Monarch continued, "The Queen and I remember with special fondness our meetings with His Holiness over the years, and we were deeply moved to be able to visit him earlier this month."
