As restoration expenses rise and he fears eviction, Prince Andrew has taken an active role in preserving Royal Lodge, his 30-room house in Windsor.
The Duke of York has been seen actively gardening around the estate, asking advice from groundskeepers on landscaping and tree care, according to the Mirror.
According to a royal insider, "The Duke has been walking around the estate a lot recently, speaking with staff and asking for tips on how to manage the grounds." He's been inquiring about various types of trees and bushes, as well as if some trees may be moved or relocated.
This direct intervention comes during a conflict with King Charles about the maintenance of the Royal Lodge.
According to the rules of his lease, Prince Andrew is responsible for the property's maintenance, which includes repainting the outside every five years and redecorating the inside every seven years.
According to reports, he is overdue on these duties, with repair expenditures estimated at more than £2 million.
Despite these hurdles, Prince Andrew is determined to keep his residence. Following his appearance at the Easter Sunday service at St George's Chapel, he was reported as having 'a spring in his steps,' enthusiastically engaged in attempts to revitalize the estate.
