After a tragic loss, Queen Mary is in deep mourning, and her terrible words express her despair and pain.
The Danish royal family has lamented the passing of a valued character in the life of King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark.
The Queen was overcome with emotion as she paid homage to her friend Michael Halbye, who died on April 12 as a result of internal bleeding caused by a ski accident in the Swiss town of Verbier.
Michael has spent many years as a close friend of Mary and Frederik. The businessman was evacuated to a hospital after getting emergency care, but he died from his injuries.
The Danish king wrote, "I got the news of Michael Halbye's unexpected death with deep regret. Michael Halbye was a guy with unique positive energy, extensive knowledge, and a strong desire to make a difference for others outside the community."
"He was also a friend, and he will be missed by many. My sympathies are with his family and closest friends.
Michael was first hired to teach then-Prince Frederik about the business sector before becoming a board member of Queen Mary's Foundation for nearly 17 years.
Thomas Kirk Kristiansen of Kirkbi has also paid homage, writing: "It is with tremendous regret that we learned of Michael's tragic death.
"Our thoughts and care go to Michael's family and loved ones, who are now faced with having to process the unexpected loss of a man who in all facets of life has left a great and positive impression on those around him."
Kristiansen stated, "We shall miss Michael as Vice Chairman, but most of all as a person. "May his memory be honored."
Despite their sadness, Queen Mary and King Frederik are set to attend Princess Isabella's birthday party later today (Tuesday, April 15).
The royal couple will attend a play in her honor at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen. They will be joined by 1,000 young people aged 17 to 24 for the unique occasion.
