Samsung is apparently working on a new artificial intelligence (AI) function that would provide video summaries to consumers. According to the source, the functionality is part of the South Korean tech giant's One UI 8 upgrade, which is scheduled to be built on Android 16 and available in the coming months. The next edition of the OS may include the AI video summarization feature, which is believed to provide a written summary of any web video. The functionality apparently works with sites such as YouTube and Vimeo.
Samsung's One UI 8 can automatically summarise online videos
According to SammyGuru, the tech giant is developing an AI technology that can provide a written synopsis of any web movie. The newspaper discovered the functionality in the Samsung Internet web browser's secret debug menu. Even the app's beta testers will be unable to use the function because it is not active.
According to reports, the AI-powered video summarization capability would be included in One UI 8, the company's next Android-based operating system. It is said to be based on Android 16, which is set to be launched in June, and may initially appear with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. The functionality may be part of Samsung's Galaxy AI suite of capabilities.
The newspaper also published a screenshot of the function. Users may use the picture to activate the AI function on any screen that displays an internet video. When a summary is requested, a page with the Galaxy AI logo displays at the bottom and provides a quick synopsis of what happened in the movie in bullet point format.
According to reports, the AI video summarization tool includes a "Detailed" summary option that delivers a more in-depth summary. The magazine was able to test the function and discovered it to be rather accurate.
Notably, it is described as an on-device feature, which indicates that it does not require Internet traffic and instead of transferring the data to Samsung's servers, the processing is done locally on the device's hardware.
