Sebastian Stan discussed his professional problems before earning the part of Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger.
When he earned the job in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor from The Apprentice was almost on life support.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier actor detailed the situation of his career in 2011, claiming that his business manager "told me I was saved by $65,000 that came in residuals from Hot Tub Time Machine."
Kevin Feige, co-president of Marvel Studios, revealed why Stan's acting abilities attracted to him, despite the actor's relative unknown status at the time.
"You could see that he has so much inside him and so much behind his eyes," Feige said with pride.
He said, "I'll never forget that." Fiege told one of the Captain America producers, "He's going to be a good Bucky, but he's going to be a great Winter Soldier."
The picture proved to be his professional breakthrough, as Stan not only stayed with Marvel for almost a decade, but the production company also provided him with bankability as an actor, allowing him to work on a number of highly praised films.
Last year, he shot A Different Man, which won him a Golden Globe, and The Apprentice, which garnered him an Oscar nomination in 2025.
His next Marvel production, Thunderbolts*, is set to hit theaters on April 22.
