The highly anticipated Hunger Games prequel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, has increased its cast with the inclusion of an Oscar-nominated actor.
On Friday, April 25, Lionsgate revealed that Jesse Plemons will play young Plutarch Heavensbee in the next film, which will be released in theaters on November 20, 2026.
The Killers of the Flower Moon actor has finally joined the previously announced cast of Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak, and Mckenna Grace, who will portray Haymitch Abernathy, his lover Lenore Dove Baird, and Maysilee Donner, respectively.
Plemons, 37, has been cast as a younger version of the powerful Capitol figure first played by Philip Seymour Hoffman in the 2012 film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel.
Movie producer Nina Jacobson and Color Force co-partner Brad Simpson described The Power of the Dog actor's casting selection as a "dream choice."
Furthermore, Lionsgate executive Erin Westerman believes it's "an honour" to have Plemons on board following the actor's previous cooperation with Hoffman, bringing the Hunger Games prequel full circle for the Love & Death actor.
For those unfamiliar, the 37-year-old actor worked with the late actor in the Oscar-nominated 2012 thriller The Master, in which Plemons played Val Dodd, the son of Hoffman's character, Lancaster Dodd.
Furthermore, Sunrise on the Reaping is based on the fifth installment of Suzanne Collins' dystopian novel of the same name, which was released on March 18 and takes set 24 years before the events of the first Hunger Games.
