Earl Charles Spencer has confirmed that one of the farmhouses on the Spencer family's ancient Althorp estate has been damaged by fire.
The 61-year-old Earl, Princess Diana's younger brother, posted the tragic news on social media, along with photographs of the fire and its aftermath.
'Shocked to discover that one of @AlthorpHouse's farmhouses-fortunately, uninhabited at the time-was apparently burned down by vandals last night,' he wrote on X.
He went on to congratulate the Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service for their efforts, saying, 'So very sad that someone would think this is a pleasant thing to do.'
Since 1992, Althorp has been under the care of Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer.
Interestingly, the estate was also Princess Diana's residence after her parents divorced and before she married Prince Charles.
Her ultimate resting place is on the property, on an island in the middle of a tranquil lake.
